Thought for the Day:    “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow”.   Anthony J. D'Angelo (www.brainyquote.com/topics/education)

Destinations:   We introduced a new look to the front page of the website last week, and we are prominently displaying our goals and our “Destinations.”  Sharing our destination is important, because we want everyone to know where we are going.   Sharing our destination is also important, because it focuses our work on student growth. Our strategic plan has nearly 40 strategies to guide us on our Pathways and Trails.  I will be working with the principals during the next few weeks to determine milestones for this year.  In other words, we have a goal of 95% graduation rate, but that is a five year goal.  We will take measurable, achievable steps each year.

What Employees Seek:  a recent white paper by Gallup (Re-engineering Performance Management, 2017) suggests that employees seek a few “top needs” from their employer and from their workplace:

Employees are most interested in “opportunities to learn and grow as well as a manager who cares about them as people.  They want interesting work that makes a difference in the world and aligns with their personal sense of purpose.  They also want the opportunity to advance as they develop.”

Gallup suggests that one of the most important tasks for leaders is to establish clarity and priorities.   That is one of the reasons that we focus our attention on the strategic plan and the destinations.

We desire to create a work place for our employees that fulfills these needs. A couple of our strategic initiatives this year focus on our employee experience (engagement) as well as a plan to rewrite the teacher and principal evaluation instruments.  Our focus will be growth and development rather than compliance and checklists.  If you would like to be involved in this process, please let me know.

 Have a great week,
         Jubal
