Monday Message
December 3, 2018

Thought for the Day: “The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.” T.H. White, The Once and Future King
New Elected School Members Take Oath of Office:  Please welcome newly elected school board members Beth Bear and Nate Martin. The first meeting of the new school board will be Wednesday, December 12, 2018.  We are grateful for the past service of Dona Coffey and Ken Cramer, and we wish them well with their future plans.

Giveit15:  Here is a website that will make you smile and maybe help you do the things that will bring a greater sense of joy in your life. I use the principle of “Give it 15” to write the Monday Message, take the time to play the guitar, or simply to sit quietly to calm the hustle and bustle of this time of year.  Here’s the premise:

“Chasing dreams and getting stuff done can sometimes feel like a tall task. That’s why Give it 15 is so awesome and effective: by taking the abstract BIG and actualizing it into small increments, you can orchestrate moments of accomplishment 15 minutes at a time.”

Holiday Happenings!  I am sure that I do not have to remind everyone about all of the wonderful thingsthat are happening in our schools during the month of December.  Many of the school websites have dates and times for events, and the ACSD#1 website calendar lists daily events as well.  Enjoy the holiday celebrations and support the work of our students and teachers.

Committee and Policy Work:  A list of the committee members can be found on the employee resources or the school board tab on our website.  We will post updates on the committee work this week.   If you have suggestions or comments, please share your thoughts on Let’s Talk.
Have a great week,

Jubal C. Yennie, Superintendent
Albany County School District One
