Thought for the Day: “Always remember that you are absolutely unique.  Just like everyone else.”  Margaret Mead

Legislative Process:  The legislature is in session, and I am driving back and forth to Cheyenne.  I need to hear the progress on some bills that are important to ACSD#1(funding) and share my perspective when I can add something new to the conversation.  One of the bills that is important for all of us is House Bill 0022, “Teacher Accountability.” This bill is working through a number of changes, but we are hoping that the legislature can get rid of the NCLB language from a few years ago, and insist on statute language that provides districts the flexibility to identify or create teacher evaluation tools that meet our needs.  If you are interested in the legislative process, this may be a bill you would like to follow.

Conversation, Feedback, and Recognition:  We are already preparing for the end of the year celebration—May 31, 2019.  Recognition, gratitude, and celebration are important to express and share with our employees. Please continue to share your gratitude for the people you work with every day. I enjoy hearing the great stories that recognize our wonderful people.  Our website page is still under construction, but we will continue to add pictures and stories throughout the semester. Here is the LINK.

School Board Work Session This Week:  the school board will hear three presentations this week:  1) a strategic plan/Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) update on our academic progress, 2) an update on the Dual Language Immersion program, and 3) a proposal for adding softball to the high school athletic offerings.  The meeting is at 6 p.m. in the board room at central office.  The school board will not make any decisions on any of these topics--this meeting is informational only.

Have a wonderful week!

Jubal C. Yennie, Superintendent
Albany County School District One
