Information from outside organizations must have approval before distribution to Lincoln Public Schools students. Rules and regulations for distribution approval of these materials are designated in LPS policy approved by the Lincoln Board of Education.

PLEASE NOTE - All materials distributed by outside organizations must contain the following disclaimer: "This is privately sponsored, and not sponsored or endorsed by Lincoln Public Schools."

Feeder Schools (i.e. high school clubs, organizations etc.)
  • School clubs and organizations that wish to promote their events to other schools may distribute flyers only to their official feeder schools.

  • The flyers will still need to be approved by LPS Communications by filling out this form.

Non-profit organizations

Lincoln Public Schools will cooperate with community, nonprofit organizations to distribute information about enrichment opportunities available to students.

Regulations include the following:
  • Non-profit, youth-serving organizations are permitted to distribute flyers, brochures and posters promoting events for youth. (No stickers, please.) They are only allowed to distribute to a limited number of ELEMENTARY schools (3) – and must name those schools. They are allowed one flyer PER semester. If more than 3 schools are desired, flyers must be customized for that school. Flyers are not sent home with middle and high school students. No flyers can be sent home with students the first and last week of school.

  • When an outside organization asks to distribute flyers through the school's take-home folders, they cannot choose to separate that distribution by gender or grade.  In other words, they cannot decide to target girls or boys, or just one grade level - they must distribute to every student. Organizations can choose to distribute to oldest and only so every family receives the information.

  • Non-profit, youth-serving organizations that want to distribute information to all elementary school students are encouraged to purchase space in Community News, a non-profit publication circulated to elementary students. Call 436-1610 for more information.

  • Materials with political or religious content – materials that proselytize or evangelize – will not be approved for distribution, nor will materials containing art or composition which is in bad taste or otherwise inappropriate for distribution to students.

  • No for-profit logos, coupons or offers are allowed.

  • All materials distributed must carry the following disclaimer: “This event
is privately-sponsored and is neither sponsored nor endorsed by Lincoln Public Schools.”

For profit organizations

Profit organizations are not permitted to distribute information directly to our students. This includes advertising, coupons, achievement certificates, contests and other materials such as stickers on students.

There are limited exceptions that include:
  • When the organization is partnering with a school, PTO or Booster group to participate in a fund-raising effort for the school – we allow one flyer (again, no stickers please). Those flyers must also be approved by LPS Communications.  A simple handout is allowed – that provides information about the fundraiser – but the handout should NOT look like an advertisement for that profit organization.

  • When LPS instructional leaders and curriculum specialists determine information has instructional value for a classroom’s learning and teaching environment.

  • When profit companies provide us with flyers identifying job opportunities for students, that information will be placed in more “private” school areas such as counseling centers and on an electronic job board that students can access.
