The 86th Texas Legislature approved House Bill 3, which overhauled the state's public education finance system. This resulted in additional funding being allocated to Austin ISD, which has been partly committed to increased pay for staff. The breakdown of the pay increase is as follows:
  • Regular employees working in benefits-eligible positions, employed at least 50% are eligible*
  • Teachers, counselors and librarians with more than 5 years of experience receive 7% compensation increase
  • All other staff receive a 6% compensation increase
  • Bilingual teachers who serve bilingual students in district-designated bilingual or dual language classrooms will receive an annual stipend of $3500
  • Special education teachers serving special education students in a district-designated special education program will receive an annual stipend of $1500
These compensation increases go into effect on the first day of an employee's 2019-2020 work assignment and will be reflected retroactively in the regular September paycheck (deposited Sep 30).

*Temp-hourly, substitute or contract employees, and school nurses are not eligible for the raise.
