Application to check out a Kajeet/Verizon MiFi device for use by stu
dents at home during the COVID-19 Pandemic

A MiFi is a mobile wireless hotspot that provides Internet access through a cellular signal. TVUSD has contracted with Kajeet to provide filtering, management, and monitoring, and Verizon Wireless to provide wireless service for students without Internet access at home. All use of MiFi devices and the connectivity they provide are governed by TVUSD’s Board Policy and Administrative Regulation 6163.4 for Student Use of Technology.

Due to the limited availability of these devices nationwide, TVUSD parents are being asked to first contact their local cable provider or wireless carrier and attempt to obtain the free connectivity many of them are offering during this crisis. This free connectivity could be in the form of cable Internet access or free hotspot functionality on your smartphone with data limits removed.

  • Once it is confirmed that the above options are not available or feasible, priority will be given to low-income high school seniors who need this access to complete graduation requirements.

Here’s some important information about TVUSD’s Kajeet / Verizon MiFi devices and service:

  • Devices are valued at $100 (replacement cost).
  • All Internet access through the MiFi is subject to filtering and monitoring.
  • Devices are equipped with GPS / location services.
  • Bandwidth is limited to 500MB of data per day. Use should be primarily for online learning activities.
  • Internet access is unavailable from 11 PM - 6 AM.
  • ​Multiple devices can connect to one MiFi

Please note, by submitting the request below, I verify that my student does not have Internet access at home. I have made every effort to obtain free Internet access from my local cable providers or my wireless carrier to no avail. If at any point during the duration of the loan, my student gains home internet service, or if we leave the school and enroll in any other public, private, or charter school, I will immediately return the device so another TVUSD family can benefit from its use. I understand that there may be a replacement fee for a lost, stolen or damaged device.

Please also download the form linked here.  You will need to print it and bring it with you to pick up your MiFi device once you receive your appointment notification.  If you are unable to print the form, one will be provided for you to complete and sign when you retrieve your device.
