Professional Pathways for Teachers (PPfT) is a collaboration between Austin Independent School District, Education Austin, and American Federation of Teachers (AFT) to design a Talent Strategy System that blends appraisal, compensation, leadership pathways and professional development.

Compensation: PPfT is a system that compensates professional growth and classroom expertise.  For the PPfT system, a teacher is defined as directly instructing students 50% or more of the instructional day and whose title is teacher in the Talent Strategy system.

Appraisal: Professional Pathways for Teachers (PPfT) Appraisal is a multi-measure system that covers three areas:

  • Instructional Practice
  • Professional Growth and Responsibilities
  • Student Growth (School Wide Value Added & Student Learning Objectives)

In PPfT, a teacher is defined as one who directly instructs students 50% or more of the instructional day and whose title is teacher in the HR system. The Student Learning Objective (SLO) is a teacher-set goal for student growth that the teacher strives to achieve by the end of the semester or school year. The SLO addresses the largest group of students that the teacher teaches. These targets are based on a thorough review of available data reflecting students' baseline skills, and are set and validated after collaboration and consultation with colleagues and administrators.

Student Learning Objectives: The Student Learning Objective (SLO) is a teacher-set goal for student growth that the teacher strives to achieve by the end of the semester or school year. The SLO addresses the largest group of students that the teacher teaches. These targets are based on a thorough review of available data reflecting students' baseline skills, and are set and validated after collaboration and consultation with colleagues and administrators.
